What is the NDA?

Eligibility for NDA
- Age:Between 16.5 and 19 years at the time of joining the Academy.
- Education:12th standard passed or appearing in the final year.
- Nationality:Indian Citizen.
NDA Written Exam
- Conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year.
- It consists of two papers:
- Mathematics:120 questions, 2.5 marks each (total 300 marks), with negative marking.
- General Ability Test (GAT):150 questions, 4 marks each (total 600 marks), covering English, Current Affairs, History, Geography, General Science, etc.
NDA SSB Interview
The Services Selection Board (SSB) assesses your Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) through various tests spread over 5 days:
- Psychological Tests:Evaluate your mental alertness, leadership potential, and problem-solving skills. Be honest and spontaneous.
- Group Discussions:Assess your communication, teamwork, and decision-making abilities. Participate actively and listen to others.
- Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT):Gauge your imagination, creativity, and analytical skills. Observe, interpret stories from pictures, and discuss them constructively.
- Interview:Assess your personality, motivation, and understanding of the Armed Forces. Be confident, truthful, and answer questions directly.
- Outdoor Tests:Evaluate your physical stamina, mental toughness, and leadership qualities through tasks like obstacle courses and group activities. Give your best effort and demonstrate cooperation.
NDA Medical Examination
- A thorough medical check-up at designated hospitals to ensure you meet the physical and medical standards required for military life.
Training at the NDA:
The NDA offers a rigorous three-year program, divided into six semesters. It includes:
- Academic Training:Core military subjects, scientific and technical knowledge, language skills, and leadership development.
- Physical Training:Rigorous physical activities to build stamina, strength, and agility.
- Military Training:Drills, weapon training, field exercises, and leadership drills.
